gone. nothing right now. travel lanes are open. the 14th street bridge, they moved the camera a little bit you can see were the christmas tree was. we will take you out around the region. checking out the beltway at kenilworth avenue, overnight construction picked up. >> in the meantime, we are following the breaking news from japan of a powerful earthquake. >> let's get the details. >> good morning. we have learned that officials have just held a press conference not long ago. the tsunami warning is still in effect for those in higher elevations. they are asking those folks to remain on higher ground. the 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit -- hit off the coast of northern japan. buildings in tokyo shook for several minutes.

the good news is that there have been at no immediate reports of injuries or damage. the tokyo electric power company says they have had no problems at any of their plants. we do know that the airport is closed right now. no flights going in or out until the tsunami warnings are lifted. we will continue to follow the story. >>, for that. there is reason this morning for a neighborhood plagued by flooding to be optimistic. a proposal to overhaul the system is under way. john is like to explain the system. >> later this morning, the mayor will be out here at the filter plant to make the official announcement to make repairs. after more than 30 years of bad flooding, residents say they cannot wait. >> possible hope for people living in this battered local neighborhood drowning because of a series of bad floods.

>> thank you so much. it looks like it will be slowing -- slow going on metro. megan's law impact pretty much every line. red line is taking a pretty hard hit this weekend. >> absolutely. five stations along the red line are shutting down, including this one in weekend. if you are taking metro on any line, you'll want to plan some extra time into your trip. the other lines the other stations that will be closed starting at 10:00 tonight will be takoma, sulphur springs, and glenmont. red line trains will operate between shady grove every 10 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. throughout the weekend. travelers should allow between 50 and 60 minutes of additional travel time. every line this weekend will be

who tried to blow up an atm in fredericksburg. here are surveillance photos showing the suspect coming up to the atm with an explosive. a bank employee was the first to spot the damage at a virginia credit union. the machine was not damaged to the point where they could take money. it did continue to operate. four juvenile have been accused of torching a playground. the fire caused about $160,000 in damage. the suspects' names are not being released. >> and idaho college professor has a unique effort to try to find big foot. he plans to build a plant to track down the legendary creature. he says he will have a high-tech equipment and infrared cameras that will give researchers a the best chance to spot the sasquatch. >> all types of wildlife

>> thank you so much. we are getting reports of injuries -- from the powerful earthquake off the coast of japan. >> according to the japanese times, five people have been taken to hospital with injuries are related to the earthquake, but none of the injuries are considered very dangerous. we are also learning that tsunami warnings had been lifted. people are not taking any this lightly. you can see this picture that was posted on twitter of news anchors in japan wearing hard hats at the anchor desk to prepare for any possible aftershocks or anything. the 7.3 earthquake hit off the coast of northeastern japan after four o'clock this morning our time. it shook buildings in tokyo for several minutes. this is the same region that was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami last year. tokyo electric power says there have been the problems at any of its nuclear plants are

facilities. we do know that the airport in that area is still closed, even though the warnings had been lifted. we will make sure to update you when that reopens. >> thank you so much. here at home, portions of three metro lines will be shut down. that has the system warning writers to add one hour in extra travel time in some places. brianne carter breaks it down for us. >> if you are traveling on the red line, you'll want to add some extra time. there'll be three shuttle buses traveling along the section of the line that will be closed. you talked about the five stations, and we can as one of them. here is a list of the other ones. takoma silver springs, and glenmont will be closed. shuttle buses will replace the trains between fort totten and glenmont. they're asking travelers to add anywhere from between 50 and 60 minutes of extra -- of extra

travel time. those three shuttle buses will also replaced green line trains between archive and waterfront. they will be doing some work there as well. there will also be no yellow line service this weekend between fort totten and archive. they're doing great work over the potomac river. all of this is because metro is doing a multimillion-dollar with safety. there'll be a number of different projects happening between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on saturday and sunday. you'll want to add time ad your schedule. the stations that will be shut down will be shutdown starting from 10:00 tonight. metro says to add anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes to your trips. reporting live, brianne>> by the way, d.c.'s regarding angels are jumping into action. a will be on metro's green line trains.

the vigilante group says they will not allow banks to turn the metro line into a mugging place. >> ohlman was shot in the arm and stomach on a thursday night. she was taken to hospital where she died. police have not released for name but they do say that she was 63 years old. a man is now in custody. the circumstances that led to the shooting are still unclear. >> a man accused of murdering a jewelry store owner is one -- will be in court today. police say he shot and killed tommy wong. >> a neighborhood prone to flooding is getting something to be happy about this morning. upland in the neighborhood has
